Wat Umong Temple
We started the morning with Thai massages here at the villa which were quite an experience. I have had many massages in my day but never a Thai massage. I was unaware of just how inflexible I am! Goodness, between Bill and I and our “OH, OUCH, YIKES, OK!” I think the ladies had a good chuckle during the 1.5- hour massage. I was going to book an hour but our host who handled the booking said you must do no less than 1.5 to really relax. Ok, sold, an hour and a half it is. Cost us $29 (total!). Oh and $4 for Mel to watch Zach and $2 to Zach for having good behavior. We’ll be booking that again. I think we could do it daily during our stay here and still not exceed one time massages at the SMI : ) We’ll see how we feel tomorrow. I took two Tylenol just in case. I have a feeling I may need something a bit stronger.
Had some chill time at the pool and then decided to head out and explore so we had Sunny, our fabulous driver (I always wanted a driver), take us out for a couple of hours. Mel, our cultural expert of the trip, made sure we were dressed temple appropriate (legs, knees and shoulders were covered) and off we went. We were headed to Wat Umong Temple which is a 700 year old temple, supposedly built for a monk with a reputation for taking long walks in the forest. To keep him from wandering off, several maze - like tunnels were constructed. Perfect, sounded like a great afternoon outing for us.
On the way back, Sunny took us by the local open air market. Kind of like a farmer’s market just way more fish and meat mixed in. And clothes, shoes, toilet paper, etc. Everything you need really. We picked up a bunch of fresh veggies to make a stir fry at home, and Zach bought a huge watermelon. We went back to the fancy supermarket afterward to round out our purchases with some pasta, breakfast stuff, and more bottled water.
Spent the rest of the afternoon at the villa, relaxing on the veranda and at the pool. Gracy delivered our laundry and wow, it is so beautifully pressed I don’t even want to wear anything. Even our underwear and socks are ironed! I could get used to this for sure.
