Chiang Mai Recap by Mel and Zach
Travel day - Today was a travel day, albeit a short one and we headed from Chiang Mai to Bangkok (about an hour flight). Another free flight---airline miles seem to go a lot further over here. So far all the legs of our trip have been on miles—4 flights (for all 4 of us) so far.
We left the hotel at noon and we were at the gate by 12:35. Two security screenings and checked bags. Didn’t make the sunscreen mistake this time. We took the hotel car which was super convenient, $6.50 USD.
I can’t remember if I wrote about the international lounge access fiascos already (I think so) but regardless, Bill was successful at getting us all into the Thai lounge at the Chiang Mai airport which was great because the airport waiting area is super small and was very crowded. Side note: I checked out the food bar and went back to tell the crew pineapple and watermelon were their best bet. Zach stuck with that, Bill and Mel. . well Mel had the salmon sandwich and Bill had the tuna sandwich. Both of which, while individually wrapped, were sitting out on a big platter---not chilled. Ick. I don’t eat either chilled or not but those two with their adventurous eating and iron clad stomachs. We’ll see how they are feeling in about an hour.
Flight was delayed just a bit, plenty of time to do a quick debrief interview with the kids about Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai Recap
by Melina & Zach
What was your favorite part?
M: I really liked the night market. I wish we could’ve stayed longer. I am looking forward to the night market in Bangkok
Z: My favorite part of Chiang Mai was the food and the fish massage. Those little fish ate all the dead skin off my feet and I want to do it again. I want to open one in the garage in our next house so I can make money, have fish and we won’t have any dead skin on our feet. It will be really cool. Papa wants to get a monkey farm. He felt really bad about the monkey school. I liked the Thai massage too.
Would you come back to Chiang Mai?
M: Yes I would. I would like to go to an elephant sanctuary that is actually a legit sanctuary and maybe volunteer there.
Z: Yes I would probably go back even though there was lots of heat. I liked the outdoor market and looking at all the cool stuff they had and their expensive prices. I also liked riding in the tuk-tuks.
What about the food?
Z: The most interesting the food I ate was papaya fruit. It tasted different than papaya at home. A little orangey taste but it wasn’t an orange , more papaya taste but I couldn’t describe it in words -- maybe papaya that tastes like orange, lime and water maybe.
M: I think I accidentally ate octopus instead of chicken when we were at the hot pot place. It wasn’t bad.
Thai massages for all!
